Guide Review - Brain Sync's Guided Meditation
Normally, this isn't the kind of thing I like to review...nor is it the kind of thing I like to do. Meditation, that is. However, when I put the CD in my player and slipped on my headphones, I decided to change my mind about this whole meditation thing. The purpose of this guided meditation CD is to help you relax your mind and body with music set at different frequencies that tap into our Alpha, Beta, Theta, and Delta brainwaves. While this sounds a little strange, the end result is a 30-minute trip inside your mind to quiet your thoughts and feel good. Kelly Howell, the instructor, starts with instructions for getting ready and then you begin your meditation with her voice guiding you to a quiet place you create in your mind. With her cues, you enter a garden and go through various activities that help you rest, relax and rejuvenate. The music is strangely seductive--I don't know anything about brainwaves, but I could feel my body reacting to both the music and her soothing voice. While I was skeptical that I'd be able to sit through the entire 30-minute session, I was surprised when it was over and eager to do it again. This is an excellent resource for anyone who wants to reduce stress and learn how to relax, although you'll need to find 30 minutes where you won't be interrupted. If you don't want to guided version, you can skip to Track 2, which offers the music without the cueing.
